  • Weekend Coverage: Approximately five weekend shifts during the six-week scheduling period
  • Call: May be required based on unit census
  • Float: Within scope, including between nearby units or sister locations as needed

Pediatric Registered Nurse Job Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse license eligible for practice in Texas; compact license must be active and in hand when applicable
  • At least 1 year of professional pediatric nursing experience
  • Current BLS and PALS certifications
  • Experience with Epic electronic health records
  • Experience caring for pediatric patients in a medical-surgical setting preferred
  • Ability to manage pediatric patient ratios of approximately 1:3–5
  • Proficiency with pediatric clinical skills, including BiPAP/CPAP management, oxygen delivery systems, dysrhythmia recognition and management, central and implanted line care, feeding support, breast milk handling, hyperbilirubinemia care, and isolation precautions
  • Ability to work night shifts, weekends, and holidays as scheduled
  • Two professional references covering at least one year of experience within the past three years

Pediatric RN Responsibilities

  • Deliver safe, compassionate, and evidence-based nursing care to infants, children, and adolescents
  • Assess patients, develop and implement individualized plans of care, and evaluate outcomes
  • Administer medications and treatments while monitoring for effectiveness and adverse reactions
  • Provide pediatric feedings, including bottle, breast, and gavage feeding support
  • Manage oxygen delivery systems and support patients requiring BiPAP or CPAP
  • Care for central lines and implanted lines using appropriate infection-prevention practices
  • Recognize and respond to changes in patient condition, including dysrhythmias and respiratory concerns
  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation in Epic
  • Use appropriate isolation precautions and personal protective equipment
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary services and communicate effectively with patients and families
  • Float within the nurse’s scope of practice and support changing unit needs based on census
