Nurse-to-patient ratios vary based on acuity and can be 1:1 or 2:1. There are no certified nursing assistants, but one nursing assistant will support unit secretary duties each day. The unit employs centralized nursing support and has designated resource staff available. Nurses are supported by intensivists, cardiologists, and respiratory therapists available 24/7. Telemonitoring is centralized, and patients primarily maintain central lines. Floating to PICU, NICU, and General Pediatrics may be required as needed. Scheduling involves weekends and holiday shifts, with flexibility for request time off with manager approval. Teamwork, trust, and accountability are fundamental aspects of the unit culture.
