Trauma Stepdown Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Description

We are seeking a qualified Trauma Stepdown Registered Nurse (RN) for an intermediate care stepdown unit, dedicated to providing nursing care to multi-system injured trauma patients and surgical patients. This role involves working closely in a multidisciplinary team environment to deliver high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide care for patients in the stepdown unit as well as floor beds, adhering to established protocols and guidelines.
• Monitor and assess patient conditions, implementing appropriate interventions based on individual needs.
• Administer medications and manage IV therapies, including starting IVs and monitoring for any adverse reactions.
• Manage ventilators and perform telemetry monitoring as needed.
• Provide conscious sedation for procedures when required.
• Participate in patient education and support patients and families throughout the recovery process.
• Collaborate with healthcare team members to optimize patient outcomes.

Shift Details

This position requires night shifts, with three 12-hour shifts or four 12-hour shifts per week. Every other weekend shifts are mandatory. Orientation and start dates are held bi-weekly on Thursdays.

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid RN license in the relevant state; compact RN license is acceptable.
• A minimum of 2 years of RN experience is required, with at least 1 year in a relevant specialty (PCU, IMC, Trauma, SDU).
• First-time travelers are welcome if they have recent ICU or trauma experience.
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS; TNCC preferred.
• Fit testing is required prior to starting the position; coordination of fit test arrangements is the candidate's responsibility.
• Strong clinical skills in IV starts, telemetry monitoring, ventilator management, and conscious sedation.

Unit Information

The unit consists of 25 floor beds, 6 step-down beds, and 6 pediatric beds; however, travelers will not be required to care for pediatric patients. The nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:5 for floor patients and 1:3 for stepdown patients. Travelers may be assigned to floor beds as discussed during the interview.

Additional Information

We are open to accommodating blocked schedule requests and will consider travel requirements within a specific radius. A flu shot is mandatory during the designated flu season unless a documented medical exemption is provided.
