PCU Registered Nurse Job Details

• Specialty: Progressive Care Unit (PCU), intermediate care
• Healthcare Setting: Acute-care hospital
• Schedule: 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
• Shift Duration: 12 hours
• Hours: Approximately 36 hours per week when scheduled
• Availability: Must work at least one shift per month to remain active in the per diem pool
• Orientation: Must be available for weekday orientation, Monday through Friday
• Engagement: One-year per diem opportunity
• Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,020–$2,130

PCU RN Job Requirements

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Virginia
• At least 2 years of professional RN experience
• At least 1 year of recent Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience
• Demonstrated ability to care for patients requiring intermediate-care, progressive-level, or higher-acuity monitoring
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Strong patient assessment, communication, and clinical decision-making skills
• Must be a local clinician available to meet the scheduling and orientation requirements

Progressive Care Unit Registered Nurse Responsibilities

• Provide safe, compassionate nursing care to patients in a Progressive Care Unit
• Assess patient conditions, recognize changes in clinical status, and escalate concerns appropriately
• Administer medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders and nursing standards
• Monitor vital signs, cardiac rhythms, laboratory results, and other indicators of patient progress
• Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, therapists, and the interdisciplinary healthcare team
• Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care plans
• Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans, medications, and discharge needs
• Accurately document assessments, interventions, and patient responses in the medical record
