Registered Nurse (RN) – Stroke/Neuro PCU

Position Overview

The Stroke/Neuro Progressive Care Unit (PCU) is seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse to provide high-quality care for patients with neurological and stroke-related conditions. This position requires expertise in monitoring, assessment, and intervention to enhance patient outcomes in a telemetric environment.

Scheduling Details

  • Shift Hours: 3x12s, 6:45 PM - 7:15 AM
  • Weekend Requirement: May work every other weekend or six weekend shifts in a 6-week scheduling block.
  • Holiday Requirement: Must work one holiday during a 13-week contract period.
  • RTO: Requests must be included upon submission.
  • Call-off Policy: The facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks.

Qualifications

  • Licensure: Must possess an active Virginia State or Compact RN license; pending licenses accepted from non-compact states.
  • Certification: Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications are required.
  • Experience: Previous experience in a Neuro PCU is highly preferred.

Clinical Skills

  • Proficient in cardiac monitoring, emergency response, and dysrhythmia interpretation/management.
  • Skilled in IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care.
  • Medication administration experience, including cardiac drips (without titration).
  • Ability to provide respiratory support, including nasal cannula and non-invasive airway management.
  • Knowledge of isolation precautions and telemetry settings across PCU and IMC units.

Unit Details

The unit is dedicated to the care and management of patients within the realms of hospitalist medicine, stroke, and neurology. Our goal is to maintain a staffing ratio of 1:4, with a typical ratio of 1:5.

  • IV Drips Managed: Includes Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, low-dose dopamine/dobutamine, Amiodarone, Nitro, Bumex, Lasix, Lidocaine, and Ketamine.
  • Remote telemetry management with tele sitting in place for increased Patient Care Tech coverage.
  • Floating: Nurses may be required to float to other units within their skillset as necessary.
