Registered Nurse (RN) - PCU

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Progressive Care Unit (PCU) team. This role requires strong experience in managing post-operative patients, with a preference for candidates who have worked in larger healthcare facilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to patients in a step-down environment from the General Surgical ICU.
• Perform cardiac monitoring and emergency response, including dysrhythmia interpretation and management.
• Administer intravenous therapy, phlebotomy, and blood product administration.
• Manage ventilator care for chronic tracheostomy patients.
• Provide respiratory support using various methods including CPAP and BiPAP.
• Participate in Rapid Response and Code team activation as needed.
• Implement isolation precautions and monitor telemetry settings.
• Occasionally float to other PCU or Med-Surg units as required.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Registered Nurse, preferably in a facility with 250 or more beds.
• Eagerness to excel within a supportive and high-acuity environment.
• Must have experience with epic charting system.
• Preferred certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS.
• Strong skills in the management of cardiac drips and central/peripheral line care.
• Ability to effectively respond to medical emergencies and provide high-quality patient care.

Patient Care and Environment

This unit typically has a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5, with an ideal goal of 1:4. You will be caring for adult and geriatric patients with diverse diagnoses in a comprehensive, multidisciplinary team setting. Daily census is around 20 patients, supported by various interdisciplinary services including Physical Therapy, Respiratory Services, and Pharmacy.

Additional Information

• Orientation hours provided: 32 hours.
• Weekend shift requirements: May require working every other weekend or a total of 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week schedule.
• Must be willing to work one holiday during a 13-week contract.
• Occasional floating to other units will be required based on staffing needs.
