Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Registered Nurse for our Intermediate Care Unit. This position requires strong clinical skills, particularly in managing high-acuity patients who require intensive monitoring and specialized care. The candidate must be adept in handling a variety of procedures and protocols relevant to progressive care settings.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor and manage patients with unstable hemodynamics, respiratory distress, withdrawal, and GI bleeds.
• Provide care for post-operative patients from various surgical disciplines, including GYN, GU, GI, neuro, and ortho.
• Administer and manage various vasoactive drips, ensuring precise titration according to patient needs.
• Perform conscious sedation and manage IV insulin protocols, along with blood product administration.
• Participate in the care of patients using central and peripheral line management, including PICC line care.
• Utilize rapid response teams efficiently when needed and administer applicable therapies and monitoring procedures.
• Recognize and interpret dysrhythmias, managing them effectively within the unit’s protocols.
• Maintain high standards of patient care while floating as needed to the sister unit.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of relevant nursing experience required.
• First-time travelers are accepted.
• Experience with arterial lines, telemetry, and conscious sedation is essential.
• Proficiency in using rapid response teams and managing isolation precautions.
• Certified in ACLS, BCLS, and NIH Stroke Scale.
• Expertise in high-flow nasal cannula, BIPAP, and non-invasive airway management.
• Strong ability to work collaboratively within a team-oriented environment while handling multiple tasks effectively.

Scheduling and Orientation

• Available for a 13-week assignment or longer, with target ratios of 1:3-4.
• Shifts are structured as 12-hour days, with every other weekend commitment required.
• Scheduling is determined by management; there is no block scheduling available.
• Orientation week will be mandatory; the traveler must be available for daily classes.
• Must pass EKG testing prior to the start for this specialty.

Special Procedures and Equipment

• Unit practices focused on safety and efficacy in patient management, including the administration of pressor drips.
• Familiarity with bedside telemetry monitors and remote backup facilities.
• Management of external CPAP/BIPAP and chest tubes, but no ventilators present in the unit.

Patient Demographics

The patient population includes adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients, with an average daily census of 18 in a 20-bed facility.
