Schedule / Job Type

Contract | Days | 3x12-Hour Shifts (6:45 AM – 7:15 PM) | Expected 36 or 48 hours per week | Every other weekend required | 13-week assignment or longer

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care in an ICU stepdown environment with a 1:3–4 nurse-to-patient ratio, managing a diverse patient population including adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients
  • Monitor, interpret, and manage dysrhythmias using bedside and remote telemetry systems; must be able to recognize and treat dysrhythmias independently
  • Titrate and manage vasoactive drips including Cardizem, Nitro, Precedex, Cardene, Levophed, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Neo; limited to one pressor drip per patient on this unit
  • Manage arterial lines, central lines, PICC lines, peripheral lines, chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac), tracheostomies, BIPAP/CPAP, and high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC)
  • Administer blood products, IV insulin protocols, and heparin protocols; provide conscious sedation and care for post-rapid response, respiratory distress, and post-operative patients
  • Float as needed to a sister ICCU unit; document using Epic and retrieve medications via Pyxis

Required Qualifications

  • Active RN license in North Carolina or a valid Compact RN license (pending licensure acceptable at time of submission)
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience; PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown experience required
  • ACLS, BLS, and NIH Stroke Scale certifications required
  • Strong experience with arterial lines, titrating vasoactive drips, conscious sedation, telemetry interpretation and management, and IV insertion
  • Experience with isolation precautions, blood product administration, heparin and IV insulin protocols, and non-invasive airway management
  • Must pass EKG testing prior to start
  • Local candidates are welcome; candidates within 50 miles of the facility will be subject to a local pay rate

Preferred Experience / Skills

  • Experience caring for post-operative patients across GYN, GU, GI, thoracotomy, neuro, and orthopedic surgical specialties
  • Familiarity with pre/post OB patients with complications, including Pitocin management
  • Prior experience with rapid response team protocols and unstable hemodynamic management
  • Proficiency with Epic EMR and Pyxis medication dispensing systems
