PACU Registered Nurse (RN)

Position Overview

The Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) is seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team. This role involves caring for patients who are recovering from anesthesia following various surgical procedures.

Unit Description

The unit specializes in post-anesthesia care for a variety of surgical disciplines including:

  • General Surgery
  • Thoracic Surgery
  • Plastic Surgery
  • Vascular Surgery
  • Orthopedics
  • Urology
  • Gynecology

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality care to patients in the PACU.
  • Monitor patient vital signs and manage post-operative pain.
  • Ensure patient safety and comfort during recovery.
  • Perform assessments and provide interventions as needed.
  • Collaborate with surgical teams to facilitate optimal patient outcomes.

Qualifications

  • 5 years of nursing experience required.
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications are mandatory.
  • Experience with EMR systems, specifically EPIC, is preferred.

Working Conditions

The PACU operates with a clinician-to-patient ratio of 1 RN to 2 patients and caters to a diverse patient population including pediatrics, adults, and geriatric patients. The unit has a bed count of 34 with an average census of 30 to 40 patients daily. Flexibility for shift rotations between days and evenings is required, with occasional rotation to day shifts.
