Outpatient Oncology Registered Nurse (RN) – Travel Nursing Contract in New Haven, CT

Join a collaborative New Haven, Connecticut, ambulatory oncology clinic as a Travel Registered Nurse (RN) supporting adult and geriatric patients. In this outpatient oncology nursing role, you will provide telephone triage, electronic in-basket management, patient education, care coordination, and follow-up across medical and surgical oncology services. This assignment offers the opportunity to work closely with multidisciplinary oncology providers while helping patients navigate complex treatment plans and continuity of care. Please note: this is not an infusion position; infusion services are provided in a separate clinic.

Travel Oncology RN Job Details

  • Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,250–$2,370
  • Assignment Type: 13-week travel nursing contract
  • Start Date: October 30, 2026
  • End Date: January 29, 2027
  • Schedule: 4 shifts per week, 10-hour day shifts
  • Shift Hours: 7:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
  • Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours per week
  • Healthcare Setting: On-site outpatient oncology clinic
  • Patient Population: Adult and geriatric oncology patients, including medical and surgical oncology populations
  • Floating: May float between specialties within scope of practice
  • Local Candidate Policy: Candidates residing within 75 miles are not eligible

Outpatient Oncology Registered Nurse Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license, with an active Connecticut RN license required before the start date
  • At least 2 years of recent outpatient oncology nursing experience
  • Previous ambulatory clinic and telephone triage experience required
  • Previous travel nursing experience required
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Chemo certification through ONS/ONCC
  • Demonstrated knowledge of oncology care, including immunotherapy, chemotherapy, oral antineoplastic medications, central line and implanted port care, symptom management, neutropenic precautions, patient education, and recognition of abnormal laboratory values
  • Strong electronic health record (EHR), communication, organization, and care coordination skills
  • Flu vaccination required; exemptions are not available

Outpatient Oncology RN Responsibilities

  • Manage and respond to patient messages through the electronic in-basket
  • Perform telephone triage, assess patient concerns, and determine appropriate follow-up or escalation
  • Provide clear education regarding oncology diagnoses, treatment plans, medications, side effects, and follow-up care
  • Coordinate tests, referrals, appointments, and other elements of each patient’s plan of care
  • Assist providers during new and return clinic visits, including preoperative and postoperative appointments
  • Support the workflow of a designated outpatient oncology team through documentation, follow-up, and clinical coordination
  • Recognize and communicate changes in patient condition, abnormal laboratory results, treatment complications, and urgent symptoms
  • Collaborate with oncology providers and multidisciplinary support services to promote safe, timely, and patient-centered care
  • Float between outpatient oncology specialties as needed while practicing within established scope and competencies
