Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Registered Nurse with experience in orthopedics to join our dynamic team. This position involves providing high-quality care to patients in a fast-paced environment, with a focus on orthopedic and neuro spine patients. The nurse will be responsible for ensuring effective pain management and overall patient well-being.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to orthopedic and neuro spine patients, including post-surgical care.
• Monitor patient vital signs and manage telemetry.
• Administer medications and IV therapy as needed.
• Maintain accurate patient records and documentation.
• Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
• Participate in patient education and discharge planning.
• Float to other med-surg units as required based on staffing needs.

Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience; orthopedic experience is mandatory.
• Traveler Experience: First-time travelers are welcome, provided they have Epic experience.
• Skills: Proficiency in IV start and telemetry.
• Certifications: Current BCLS and NIH certifications are required. ACLS certification and charge nurse experience are preferred.
• Patient Ratios: Expected nurse-to-patient ratio is 5-6:1, with potential flexibility up to 7:1 in extreme circumstances.

Shift Details

• 12-hour day shifts from 06:45 to 19:15.
• Options for 36- or 48-hour work weeks are available.
• Block scheduling options may be offered (e.g., F/S/S or S/S/M).
• Weekend shifts required every other weekend; make-up shifts are required for any weekend call-offs.
• Maximum of 7 days of RTO allowed, no holiday RTO approval available.

Patient Population

The unit typically cares for an average daily census of 37 patients across 39 rooms and beds, focusing on orthopedic, neuro spine, med-surg, and post-surgical patients. All patient care includes the management of pain and related procedures effectively.

Additional Notes

All travelers must pass EKG testing prior to starting in this specialty. Covid patients are no longer housed in a separate unit, allowing for integrated care across all units.
