Registered Nurse (RN) - Perioperative Nursing
The Registered Nurse specializing in perioperative nursing practice is responsible for delivering safe, effective, and quality patient-family centered care during the intraoperative surgical experience. This role includes acting as a patient advocate and directing personnel assigned to the surgical team.
Essential Job Functions:
- Accept responsibility for the direction, control, and planning of patient care activities.
- Make evaluations and decisions based on measurable or verifiable criteria.
- Implement the plan of care by:
- Protecting the patient from injury caused by extraneous objects and various sources.
- Performing accounting procedures to prevent unintended retained surgical items.
- Ensuring procedures are performed on the correct site, side, and level.
- Managing patient specimens according to organizational policies and procedures.
- Communicating the patient's status to relevant parties throughout the continuum of care.
- Administering medications safely and correctly.
- Maintaining the patients' wound and tissue perfusion at or above baseline levels.
- Ensuring the stability of the patient's physiological systems and balances.
- Implementing interventions to protect the patient from surgical site infection.
- Upholding patient rights, dignity, and privacy.
- Providing age-specific, culturally competent, and ethical care within legal standards of practice.
- Delivering consistent and comparable care in various settings.
- Document nursing care accurately, completely, and legibly.
- Collaborate effectively with other disciplines as applicable.
- Utilize problem-solving and conflict resolution skills to foster effective team relationships.
- Maintain required competencies and pursue professional growth through participation in a professional organization.
- Support and uphold the hospital's mission, vision, values, policies, and procedures.
- Participate in required education for applicable DNV programs.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Required: Associate of Science in Nursing.
- Preferred: Bachelor's degree in nursing.
Licenses/Certifications:
- Required: Current RN license in the State of Oregon, BLS, ACLS, & PALS Certification, TNCC.
- Preferred: CNOR, Peri-op 101, CRASE training if travel assignment exceeds six months.
Experience:
- Required: None.
- Preferred: Previous RN circulator experience, completion of Peri-op 101 course, and scrub experience.

- Ability to perform a variety of duties, adapting to changes without loss of efficiency or composure.
- Recognize and adhere to patient confidentiality rights and responsibilities.
- Convey empathy and compassion in situations involving pain, grief, or trauma.
