This 13-week travel nursing contract offers the opportunity to support a diverse range of procedures in a well-equipped operating room, including general, robotic, orthopedic, spine, ENT, dental, urology, oncology, podiatry, plastics and reconstructive, and maxillofacial cases. Travel Nursing Job Details

  • Position: Travel Operating Room Registered Nurse (RN) / Perioperative Nurse
  • Contract: 13 weeks
  • Contract Dates: November 9, 2026 through February 8, 2027
  • Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,910–$2,010
  • Hours: 36 hours per week
  • Schedule: Three 12-hour day shifts preferred; four 10-hour shifts may be considered
  • Call Requirement: Weekend call, including one 24-hour call shift every other weekend
  • Healthcare Setting: Inpatient surgical services and operating rooms
  • Patient Population: Primarily adult and geriatric patients, with some adolescent dental cases
  • Travel Requirement: At least one year of travel nursing experience required; applicants residing within 50 miles of the assignment are not eligible

Operating Room RN Job Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse license in Virginia or a valid compact-state license
  • At least three years of professional nursing experience, including operating room, perioperative, or critical care experience
  • At least one year of travel nursing experience
  • Completion of an operating room internship or comparable perioperative nursing training preferred
  • Basic Life Support certification from an approved provider prior to direct patient care
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support may be required based on the assigned surgical department
  • Successful completion of a dysrhythmia examination
  • CNOR certification preferred
  • Knowledge of AORN standards, sterile technique, infection prevention, and perioperative best practices
  • Strong communication, teamwork, clinical judgment, and patient advocacy skills
  • Ability to safely lift, transfer, position, and transport patients and function effectively in a fast-paced surgical environment

Travel OR Nurse Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, evidence-based nursing care throughout the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative phases of surgery
  • Complete comprehensive patient assessments, develop individualized plans of care, implement interventions, and evaluate outcomes
  • Coordinate patient care with surgeons, anesthesia professionals, surgical technologists, nurses, and other members of the interdisciplinary team
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and comfortable operating room environment for patients and surgical staff
  • Monitor adherence to aseptic technique, sterile-field standards, infection-control practices, and patient-safety procedures
  • Prepare surgical rooms, open sterile supplies, anticipate procedural needs, and operate or assist with standard operating room equipment and robotic technology
  • Assist with patient positioning, surgical preparation, gowning, draping, induction, emergence, and safe transport
  • Perform or assist with clinical procedures such as intravenous access, urinary catheterization, surgical site preparation, and related perioperative interventions within scope of practice
  • Administer medications safely and accurately in accordance with applicable regulations, policies, and standards
  • Document care accurately and communicate changes in patient condition, surgical progress, and care needs
  • Provide patient and family education, discharge instructions, and compassionate support throughout the surgical experience
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, staff education, orientation, and ongoing professional development
