Candidates with hematology oncology experience preferred, but not required. A minimum of 2 years of experience in Medical Surgical settings is required. Staffing ratios are aimed at 1:4 but may go up to 1:5. Scheduling is based on unit needs with no set or blocked scheduling offered. Floating to other Medical Surgical and Oncology units may be required. Patient diagnoses include Lymphoma, Multiple Myeloma, Acute Leukemias, Chronic Leukemias, Sickle Cell Disease, and other benign hematology cases. The unit provides services such as chemotherapy administration, blood transfusions, IV antibiotics, and management of oncologic emergencies. A strong emphasis is placed on infection prevention protocols and patient safety. Additional required skills include telemetry interpretation, use of rapid response teams, IV therapy, and central line management. Candidates must have experience with computerized charting systems.
