Description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Progressive Care Unit position caring for acute leukemia and hematology patients, requiring 2 years of acute care experience with 1 year in PCU and an OH or compact RN license.

Details

• PCU unit specializing in acute leukemia and hematology care
• Cares for adult and geriatric patients, primarily newly diagnosed acute leukemia cases
• Staffing ratio goal is 1:4, potentially up to 1:5
• 12-hour rotating shifts, day (7:00-19:30) or night (19:00-7:30), based on department needs
• Shift assignments reviewed every 4-week scheduling period with no guarantee of consistency
• Variable weekend requirements based on unit needs
• Uses Epic for computerized charting

Requirements

• Active OH or compact RN license required in hand at time of consideration
• BLS and ACLS certifications required
• NIHSS certification required
• ONS Chemo certification preferred (not required for this role)
• Minimum 2 years of current acute care nursing experience within the last 12 months
• At least 1 year of PCU experience required
• Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
• Skilled in telemetry monitoring and interpretation/management of dysrhythmias
• Experience with IV therapy/phlebotomy, starting and maintaining IVs
• Experience with central line and PICC line care/management
• Experience with peripheral line care/management and blood product administration
• Experience accessing/managing ports preferred
• Two professional references required, with at least one from a manager/director or supervisor
• Charge RN reference acceptable as second reference; coworker references not accepted

Additional Information

• Focus on infection prevention protocols and patient falls prevention
• Utilizes Rapid Response Teams as needed
• Oncology experience preferred, but training will be provided for oncology patients
• First-time travelers will be considered
• Former employees eligible for travel assignment after 6+ months away from the facility
• Current employees of the health system are not eligible for this traveler position
• RTO must be submitted with application and built into the contract, limited to 7 days or less
• Local candidates accepted at the same rate
• Ohio fingerprinting process must be completed urgently upon contract signing due to state requirements
