Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Neuro ICU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 1 year License: Active state license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: - Ventriculostomy experience - NIH Stroke Scale Certification - Familiarity with ventilators, arterial lines, central lines, tPA, acute stroke management, and post-craniectomy care - Ability to titrate drips as per physician orders Description: The Neuro ICU is a specialized unit with 18 beds. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:2. Common diagnoses include ventriculostomy patients and strokes, with or without TPA. RNs are required to titrate drips based on physician orders. There is a charge nurse and house supervisor on each shift. In cases of inadequate staffing, the charge nurse may take a team. Patient care technicians are available with a ratio of 9:1. RNs are required to troubleshoot respiratory therapy equipment such as vents, CPAP, and BiPAP. Tele/monitor techs are on the unit, and RNs must read and interpret their own strips, using Philips monitors. Shifts are scheduled as 12-hour shifts with a requirement for every other weekend and rotating holidays. Traveling nurses may float to any unit in the facility, including intermediate and general floors. The nurse-to-patient ratio on intermediate care is 1:3, while on general floors, it is 1:4. Unit-specific orientation includes a combination of shorter and longer shifts.
