Job Title: Registered Nurse - Neuro ICU Profession: Nursing Specialty: Neuro ICU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 1 year of experience License: Active state nursing license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: Ventriculostomy experience NIH Stroke Scale Certification Experience with ventilators, arterial lines, and central lines Knowledge of tPA and acute stroke management Experience with post-craniectomy care Description: The Neuro ICU consists of 18 beds. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:2. Nurses are required to titrate medications as ordered by physicians. Common titratable and set rate drips are managed according to physician orders. There is a charge nurse and a house supervisor on each shift. The charge nurse may take an assignment when staffing levels require it. Patient care technicians are present with a ratio of 9:1. Nurses are responsible for troubleshooting respiratory equipment including vents, CPAP, BiPAP, and High Flow. Tele-monitor technicians are available, but nurses are required to read and interpret their own strips. The unit requires every other weekend rotation and holiday shifts. Traveling nurses may float to other units as needed, with specified patient ratios. Unit orientation consists of 20 hours of training spread across assigned shifts. The charting system utilized is EPIC.
