Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical Surgical / Short Stay Unit
LocationPeoria, IL
Schedule / Job TypeContract | Nights (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM) | Onsite
Key Responsibilities- Provide direct patient care in a fast-paced Short Stay Unit managing high patient turnover with a 1:5 nurse-to-patient ratio
- Care for patients presenting with stroke, trauma, cardiac conditions, and general medical diagnoses such as UTI, COPD, and cellulitis
- Utilize Philips house-wide telemetry monitoring system; RNs are not required to independently read EKG strips
- Manage BiPAP, CPAP, and high-flow oxygen equipment as needed per PRN or scheduled orders
- Collaborate with Charge RN, House Supervisor, and Patient Care Technicians present on every shift
- Float to other departments as needed, with travelers prioritized for floating assignments
Required Qualifications- Active Illinois RN license (or confirmation that the application process has been initiated)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Demonstrated general medical/surgical nursing experience
- Ability to meet weekend requirement of 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule
- Must comply with a drug-free workplace policy and produce a negative drug screen
Preferred Experience / Skills- Prior experience in a short stay, observation, or high-turnover medical/surgical unit
- Familiarity with stroke, cardiac, and trauma patient populations
- Comfort with BiPAP, CPAP, and high-flow oxygen in a non-ICU setting
