Registered Nurse – Medical-Surgical (Surgical Oncology)

Contract (13 Weeks) | Full-Time | Days | 12-Hour Shifts (6:30 AM – 7:00 PM) | Three weekends per six-week schedule | Every other holiday | 48-hour contracts available upon request
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care to a complex medical-surgical and oncology patient population, including GI, GU, and general surgical patients
- Perform and manage clinical skills including PIV insertion, chest tube and indwelling drain management, continuous bladder irrigation (CBI), stable drip management (heparin, Lasix, Protonix), epidural management, PEG/NG tube care, ostomy care, post-Whipple recovery (24–28 hour postop), and neutropenic precautions
- Maintain strong patient assessment and critical thinking skills across a 32-bed unit with a day shift ratio of 1:4–5
- Document accurately using Epic EMR (checkoff class required upon start)
- Float as needed within the same campus mid-shift, or to a nearby campus with 2-hour advance notice; cross-campus mid-shift float is possible but uncommon
- May be required to precept nursing students and new hires at this teaching facility
Required Qualifications
- Active, current Compact RN License
- AHA BLS Certification required
- NIHSS Certification required
- Minimum of two years of strong Medical-Surgical nursing experience
- At least one prior travel nursing assignment
- Trauma Level II experience required
- Recent Epic EMR experience required
- Must live at least 40 miles from the facility to be eligible
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Experience with oncology patient populations, including neutropenic precautions and post-surgical oncology care
- Demonstrated adaptability, resilience, and ability to manage change in a fast-paced environment
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively within an experienced, stable unit team
