Registered Nurse – Medical-Surgical (Observation)

Schedule / Job Type
Contract | 13 Weeks | Full-Time | Onsite | 12-Hour Day Shifts (6:30 AM – 7:00 PM) | 36 Guaranteed Hours per Week | Three weekends per six-week schedule; every other holiday
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care on a 32-bed Medical-Surgical Observation unit with a patient population including chest pain, abdominal pain, CVA/TIA, generalized weakness, and geri-psych placement cases
- Maintain a patient ratio of 1:4–5 on day shifts with strong LPN and CNA support
- Administer and monitor stable drips including heparin, Lasix, and Protonix; perform PIV insertion
- Apply strong assessment and critical thinking skills to manage a diverse and complex patient population
- Float within skillset to a sister campus (approximately 8 miles away) or a cross-state campus (approximately 11 miles away) with a minimum 2-hour notice for cross-campus floats; mid-shift float within the same campus is also possible
- May be required to precept students and new hires at this teaching facility
Required Qualifications
- Current, active Registered Nurse compact license
- AHA BLS certification required
- NIHSS certification required
- Minimum two years of strong Medical-Surgical experience
- At least one prior travel assignment
- Trauma Level II experience required
- Recent Epic EMR experience required (checkoff class will be required upon start)
- Must live at least 40 miles from the facility to be eligible
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Experience with CVA/TIA and neurological patient populations
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to change and work effectively in a high-teamwork environment
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary staff
