Registered Nurse – Medical-Surgical (Observation)

Schedule / Job Type
Contract | 13 Weeks | 12-Hour Day Shifts (6:30 AM – 7:00 PM) | Three weekends per six-week schedule | Every other holiday | Expected 36 hours/week (48 hours/week may be available upon request; overtime applies after 52 hours on 48-hour contracts)
Key Responsibilities
- Provide observation-level medical-surgical nursing care to a diverse patient population including cardiac, CVA/TIA, post-surgical, GI/urology, AKI, cellulitis, and detox/CIWA patients
- Perform cardiac cath recovery (femoral/TR bands), NIHSS and neuro assessments, and dysphagia screenings
- Initiate and titrate drips including Heparin and Insulin; manage indwelling drains, straight cath/Foley care, and NG tube insertion
- Administer and document blood products; apply strong assessment and critical thinking skills across all patient interactions
- Float within skillset as first to float, including to a secondary campus with 2-hour advance notice; mid-shift float within the same campus is also possible
- May be required to precept students and new hires in this teaching facility
Required Qualifications
- Current active compact RN license required
- AHA BLS certification required
- NIHSS certification required
- Minimum of two years of strong Medical-Surgical experience
- At least one prior travel assignment required
- Recent Epic EMR experience required (checkoff class will be required upon start)
- Must live at least 40 miles from the facility to be eligible
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Experience with observation-level cardiac patients including chest pain, stress testing, and post-cath care without intervention
- Familiarity with hypotensive and syncope/dizziness patient management
- Experience with post-surgical care including appendectomy, cholecystectomy, and kidney stones
- Comfort working in a float-capable environment across multiple campuses
