Registered Nurse – Medical-Surgical (Observation)

Contract | 13 Weeks | 12-Hour Night Shifts (6:30 PM – 7:00 AM) | Onsite
Key Responsibilities
- Provide observation-level medical-surgical nursing care for a diverse patient population including cardiac (chest pain, post-cath without intervention, stress testing), CVA/TIA, syncope, SOB, post-surgical, GI/urology pre/post procedure, AKI, cellulitis, and detox/CIWA patients
- Perform cardiac cath recovery (femoral and TR bands), post-surgical care, NIHSS/neurological assessments, and dysphagia screenings
- Initiate and titrate drips including Heparin and Insulin; manage indwelling drains, straight cath/foley care, and NG tube insertion
- Administer blood products with accurate documentation and apply strong assessment and critical thinking skills throughout all patient interactions
- Float within skillset as needed, including to an additional campus approximately 8 miles away and potentially a cross-state campus approximately 11 miles away; 2-hour notice provided for cross-campus floats
- May be required to precept students and new hires in this teaching environment
Required Qualifications
- Current, active Registered Nurse compact license
- AHA BLS certification required
- NIHSS certification required
- Minimum of two years of strong Medical-Surgical experience
- At least one prior travel assignment required
- Recent Epic EMR experience required (checkoff class will be required upon start)
- Must live at least 40 miles from the facility to be eligible
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Experience with observation-level cardiac and neurological patient populations
- Familiarity with CIWA protocol and detox patient management
- Comfort with mid-shift and cross-campus float assignments
- Experience in a teaching hospital environment, including precepting
