Registered Nurse – Medical-Surgical (Ortho/Neuro/Trauma)

Schedule / Job Type
Contract | 13 Weeks | Full-Time | Onsite | 12-Hour Day Shifts (6:30 AM – 7:00 PM) | Three weekends per six-week schedule; every other holiday
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care on a 44-bed Ortho/Neuro/Trauma unit serving trauma, orthopedic (hip/femur fractures), and neurological (spine, neck, back, rib fractures) patient populations at a ratio of 1:3–5 on days
- Perform strong neurological assessments, log rolling, and application of assistive devices such as back braces and immobilizers
- Interpret telemetry and 12-lead EKGs; travelers may be required to pass a telemetry test if stepdown experience applies
- Insert peripheral IV lines and manage patient care documentation using Epic (checkoff class required upon start)
- Float within skillset as first to float, including potential cross-campus float to nearby facilities with a minimum 2-hour notice provided
- May be required to precept students and new hires at this teaching facility
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience, including at least 1 full year in ortho, neuro, or trauma
- Trauma Level II experience required
- At least 1 prior travel nursing assignment required
- Current active compact RN license required
- AHA BLS certification required
- NIHSS certification required
- Recent Epic charting experience required
- Must live at least 40 miles from the facility to be eligible
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Experience with chest tube and indwelling drain management, drip management (heparin, Lasix, Protonix), and epidural management
- Familiarity with PEGs/NGs, Buck's traction, pin site care, On-Q management, and wound care including wound vacs and packing
- CIWA and behavioral health experience
- Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to adapt to change in a fast-paced environment
