Registered Nurse – Medical-Surgical (Orthopedic / Neurological / Trauma)

Schedule / Job Type
Contract (13 or 20 weeks) | Full-Time | Onsite | Day Shift (12-hour shifts, 6:30 AM – 7:00 PM) | 36 guaranteed hours per week (48 hours available upon request) | Three weekends per six-week schedule; every other holiday required
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care on a 44-bed Orthopedic, Neurological, and Trauma unit serving populations including trauma, orthopedic (hip/femur fractures), and neurological (spine, neck, and back) cases
- Perform strong neurological assessments, log rolling, and application of assistive devices such as back braces and immobilizers
- Interpret telemetry and 12-lead EKGs; travelers may be required to pass a telemetry competency test
- Insert and manage peripheral IV lines and assist with management of chest tubes, indwelling drains, epidurals, and wound care as applicable
- Float within skillset to a sister campus as needed, with a minimum of 2 hours notice provided for cross-campus floats
- May be required to precept nursing students and new hires in this teaching environment
Required Qualifications
- Current, active compact RN license
- AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Minimum of 2 years of RN experience, including at least 1 full year in an orthopedic, neurological, or trauma setting
- Minimum of 1 prior travel nursing assignment
- Level II Trauma experience required
- Recent hands-on experience with EPIC electronic health records
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Experience with chest tube and indwelling drain management, drip administration (e.g., heparin, diuretics, proton pump inhibitors), and epidural management
- Familiarity with PEG/NG tubes, Buck's traction, pin site care, On-Q pain management systems, and wound care including wound vacs and packing
- Experience with CIWA protocol and behavioral health patient populations
- Step-down unit experience (required for telemetry test eligibility)
