Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Medical-Surgical Acute Care Duration: 15 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 1 year of hospital experience preferred License: Active Illinois RN license required or confirmation that application process has been initiated Certifications: BLS certification required, ACLS preferred for Charge RN position Must-Have: Experience with titrating drips, specifically Heparin Description: The unit comprises 18 beds, with all private rooms except for one semi-private. Patient to nurse ratio is 4-5:1 during days and 5-6:1 during nights. Common patient diagnoses include general medical conditions with various diagnoses. RNs are expected to titrate Heparin and may care for patients with oxygen requirements up to 6L NC and stable BiPAP/CPAP at night or as needed. There is 24-hour Charge RN coverage, which may include a patient assignment at times. The unit has patient care technicians for support, with two per shift resulting in a patient ratio of 9:1 when full. Telemetry monitoring is provided by a dedicated department, and RNs will primarily utilize Phillips equipment for their patients. Unit clerks are available 24 hours for administrative support. RNs are required to work every other weekend and participate in holiday rotation as per policy. Floating to other units may be required for travel nurses, and scrub color is flexible, though staff must provide their own. In-house support includes a hospitalist/intensivist, respiratory therapists, and a pharmacy team available 24/7. RNs are encouraged to attempt IV starts and can access an inpatient phlebotomy team for blood draws if needed. Shifts include 12-hour rotations with report times at 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Nurses are expected to collaborate with unit leadership to discuss scheduling preferences. This is a drug-free campus, and all candidates must produce a negative drug screen for employment.
