ACLS required.
Will accept a 48-hour guarantee.
Unit specifics include 30 beds with a patient ratio of 6:1.
Unit staffing consists of a unit clerk on days, 2-3 Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) day and night, a nursing supervisor, and hospitalists.
Type of equipment used includes Welch Allyn vitals neuron, Novameter glucose, GE telemetry, and Rover documentation system.
Medications are dispensed via WOW for all nurses and a PyxisES dispensing system.
Scheduling requires the equivalent of every other weekend, resulting in 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule.
Floating policy applies to other Med Surg areas, including general med-surg, orthopedic, progressive care unit, and med-surg surgical with oncology.
Bedside rounding and hourly rounding with 5Ps checked are mandatory for patient experience.
Report known patient needs to PCTs at the beginning and during shifts.
Check the glass board for department focus areas.
A scrolling video kiosk and email are available for updates and references.
Advanced skills needed include knowledge of Heparin, Cardizem, Dobutamine, Dopamine, and Amiodarone drips.
Procedures performed on the unit include chest tube management, wound vac management, and EKGs ad lib.
Documentation of telemetry application and acknowledgment of rhythm strips must be placed in the chart each shift.
No-pass zone for bed alarms, call lights, and IV alarms is strictly enforced.
Dress code consists of navy scrubs for RNs and ceil blue scrub sets for CNAs/PCTs, with the option to wear approved t-shirts underneath.
No artificial or gel nails or gel nail polish are permitted.
Awards and recognition include various accolades and nominations.
The unit has experienced charge nurses with 12 to 39 years of seniority available on days and night shifts.
Shared governance is practiced in both the unit and facility.
