Job Summary

Join our dedicated nursing team as a Medical Surgical Registered Nurse at MVHS-Wynn, located in Utica, New York. This role is situated on the 6th Floor Med Surg unit, providing comprehensive care to adult patients.

As a Medical Surgical RN, you will be responsible for managing the care of patients recovering from a variety of post-surgical conditions, including abdominal pain, cholelithiasis, osteoarthritis, fractures, back pain, and bariatric surgery. Your daily responsibilities will involve patient assessment, medication administration, monitoring vital signs, and providing patient and family education on recovery and discharge planning.

This position requires a commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care within a dynamic hospital environment, utilizing your clinical expertise to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct nursing care to adult patients with a variety of medical and post-surgical conditions, including those recovering from abdominal pain, cholelithiasis, osteoarthritis, fractures, back pain, and bariatric surgery.
  • Administer medications, perform treatments, and monitor patient responses in accordance with physician orders and hospital policies.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans, ensuring patient safety and comfort.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare team members to coordinate patient care and achieve desired outcomes.
  • Educate patients and their families on disease processes, medication management, and post-discharge care instructions.
  • Document all patient care activities accurately and thoroughly in the electronic medical record system.
  • Float to other units as required by staffing needs and patient census.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of two (2) years of recent experience as a Registered Nurse in a Medical Surgical setting.
  • Prior travel nursing experience is required.

Skills & Competencies
  • Proficiency in Medical Surgical nursing skills, including wound care, medication administration, and patient assessment.
  • Experience with specialty equipment such as IV pumps, Nasogastric (N/G) tubes, and feeding tubes.
  • Demonstrated competency with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems, specifically EPIC.
  • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic healthcare environment.

  • Hours: 6:30 PM - 7:00 AM (12-hour shifts)
  • Days per week: 3
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks

  • End Date: January 30, 2027
  • Block scheduling is not guaranteed.
  • Floating to other units may be required.
  • Required Scrub Color: Navy Blue.
Licensing Requirements
  • Active and unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of New York.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
