Job Title: Med/Surg Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Med/Surg Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Must have a valid RN license Certifications: ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications required Must-Have: - Certifications must be through the American Heart Association Description: Med/Surg Nurses provide direct and individualized nursing care to patients based on the application of scientific nursing principles. Responsibilities include consulting and coordinating with health care team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans. Prepares and administers medications as prescribed and records them accurately. Reports adverse reactions to medications or treatments in accordance with established policies. Educates patients on surgical procedures and provides information on post-treatment home care needs. Records medical information and vital signs, and monitors specialized equipment used on patients. Initiates corrective action whenever the patient displays adverse symptoms. Provides bedside care for a variety of medical patients, including pre- and post-surgery patients. Initiates patient education plans as prescribed by the physician. Changes dressings, inserts catheters, and starts IVs as required. Prepares equipment and assists physicians during examination and treatment of patients. Responds to life-saving situations according to nursing standards and protocols. Participates in discharge planning and utilizes time management skills. Records all care information concisely, accurately, and in a timely manner in the appropriate format. Performs other position-related duties as assigned depending on the assignment setting.
