The nurse will supervise and direct the activities of various levels of assigned nursing staff. Coordination of care with other disciplines is essential. Critical thinking, professional and supervisory discretion, and independent judgment are required. The nurse will collect relevant data pertinent to the patient's health or situation. Analyzing assessment data to determine diagnosis and care issues is a key responsibility. A plan that prescribes interventions to attain outcomes will need to be developed. The nurse will implement the plan, coordinate care delivery, and employ strategies to promote health and a safe environment. Evaluating progress toward attaining outcomes is also included in this role. Identifying outcomes for patients or their situations is necessary. Collaboration with the patient, family, and healthcare providers in providing a safe and caring environment is critical. Providing learning opportunities for patients, family members, and team members will be part of the job. Direct provision of health information to patients, families, and treatment teams is expected. Participation in discharge planning is required to provide continuity of care. The nurse will delegate appropriately and coordinate the duties of healthcare team members.
