Will accept 48-hour guarantee. Unit specifics include 30 beds with a patient ratio of 6:1. Staffing includes a unit clerk during the day, 2-3 Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) on day and night shifts, and a nursing supervisor. Primary care team consists of hospitalists. Type of equipment includes Welch Allyn vitals neuron, Novameter glucose, GE Telemetry, and Rover's documentation system. Documentation system utilized is Meditech. Medications are handled via WOW for all nurses and a PyxisES dispensing system. Scheduling requirements involve working every other weekend. Floating policy includes other Med Surg areas, such as general Med Surg, Ortho, and Progressive Care Unit (PCU). Patient experience requirements include bedside rounding and hourly rounding with a focus on the 5 P's. Reporting of known needs to PCTs occurs at the beginning and during shifts. A glass board is available for departmental focus areas. A scrolling video kiosk and email updates are provided for reference. Advanced skills needed include knowledge of Heparin, Cardizem, Dobutamine, Dopamine, and Amiodarone drips. Procedures performed on the unit include chest tube management, wound vac management, and EKGs as needed. Documentation of telemetry application and acknowledgment of rhythm strips in patient charts is required each shift. There is a no-pass zone for bed alarms, call lights, and IV alarms. Recognition awards include nominations for exceptional care and achievement. The team consists of charge nurses with extensive seniority on both day and night shifts. Shared governance is practiced within the unit and the facility.
