Shift Time: Start Time: 07:00 PM End Time: 07:00 AM
Shift Type: Night Shift
Duration: 13 Weeks
Department: Neuro Medical/Surgical Unit
Shift: 12-hour shifts
EMR: Meditech

Call: N/A
Weekends: 4 shifts per schedule

Unit Overview

The 5 Central Neuro Medical/Surgical Unit is a 30-bed department with approximately 60 staff members. The unit provides care to neurological and medical-surgical patients, with a strong focus on stroke care and neurological monitoring.

Staffing

Day Shift:

  • 1 CNC

  • 3 RNs

  • 3 LVNs

  • 3 PCTs

  • 1 Unit Coordinator

Night Shift:

  • 1 CNC

  • 3 RNs

  • 3 LVNs

  • 3 PCTs

Patient Ratio: 1:5

Equipment & Technology
  • Welch Allyn vital-sign equipment

  • COWs (Computers on Wheels)

  • Hoyer lifts

  • PCA pumps

  • CareView Virtual Sitter

  • Telepsych

  • Teleneuro

Required Qualifications

Candidates must have:

  • BLS certification

  • NIH/NIHSS certification

  • IV certification for LVNs

Preferred Qualifications
  • ACLS certification

Typical Procedures & Patient Care

The unit provides care involving:

  • Stroke/NIH assessments

  • EEGs

  • Gastric decompression

  • Wound care

  • Neurological monitoring and medical-surgical patient care
