The unit consists of 32 beds. There is a mix of RN, LVN, and PCT staff. The night shift typically has 1 Charge Nurse, 4-5 Nurses (RN/LVN mix), and 2-3 PCTs. The patient ratio is 1 nurse per 6 patients. The unit is equipped with Baxter IV pumps and Welch Allyn vital signs machines. The electronic medical record system is Meditech. Floating may occur to a sister department or Inpatient Rehab as needed. Typical procedures performed include patient ambulation and wound care as needed. The ideal candidate will possess a positive attitude and be a team player. There is a strong department culture where staff support one another during busy shifts. An admission/discharge team is available to assist with the workflow for Med Surge patients.
