Med Surg/Tele Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Overview

A Med Surg/Tele Registered Nurse (RN) is required to deliver high-quality patient care in a telemetry unit, providing care for patients with various medical conditions, including abdominal and ear/nose/throat surgeries.

Shift Details

• Night shift from 1900 to 0730
• Every other weekend and holiday commitment required
• 12-hour shift length

Unit Information

• Unit Type: Telemetry
• Number of Beds: 29
• Nurse to Patient Ratios: 1:4 during days, 1:6 during nights
• Common Patient Diagnoses: Abdominal Surgeries, Ear/Nose/Throat Surgeries, Complex wounds, General Medical

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care in accordance with established protocols and standards
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed
• Monitor patients' vital signs and manage intravenous (IV) therapy, including titrating specific drips such as heparin, insulin, diltiazem, amiodarone, and nitroglycerin
• Perform assessments and record observations in the Electronic Health Record (EHR)
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement patient care plans
• Participate in Patient Care Team activities and reporting

Qualifications

• Current BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
• A minimum of 1 year of experience in a similar role
• Proficient in handling IVs, drains, ostomies, wound vacs, NG tubes, and Foley catheters
• Intermediate care background preferred

Additional Information

• Charge nurses will take a smaller patient assignment with no requirement for agency staff to work in a charge role
• Registered Nurses are not required to read telemetry strips as they will be monitored by techs, who will report any concerns
• Orientation includes 12 hours of computer training and 12 hours of shadowing
• Floating to other med/surg units may occur if the unit is overstaffed
• Scrubs of any color are permitted, with no scrubs provided
