TravelNurseSource is working with Revolution Healthcare Services to find a qualified Med/Surg / Tele RN in Wilmington, North Carolina, 28401!

# Job Opportunity – Emergency Department Holding RN – North Carolina

Start Date: October 12, 2026
Location: Wilmington, North Carolina
Compensation: Details provided to qualified applicants
Schedule: Night shift, 36 or 48 hours per week

Highlights:

  • Unique ED Holding Support position within the Float Pool supporting patients awaiting inpatient placement
  • Contract lengths from 13+ weeks through February 27, 2027 to support through the holiday season
  • Target ratios: 1:6 for Medical/Surgical-Telemetry patients or 1:4 for Progressive Care Unit level patients
  • 12-hour orientation with Epic charting system and Pyxis medication management
  • Every other weekend requirement with flexibility to float to ED and Medical/Surgical areas as needed
  • Dynamic, fast-paced environment caring for adult patients with diverse medical/surgical diagnoses

Requirements:

  • Active North Carolina or Compact state RN license
  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required
  • Previous travel nursing experience required
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • Must pass EKG testing prior to start date
  • Proficiency in Medical/Surgical-Telemetry nursing including interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Experience with blood product administration, peripheral line care, PICC line management, chest tubes, BiPAP/CPAP, high flow nasal cannula, and tracheostomy management
  • Competency in colostomy care, feeding tube management, renal failure patients, heparin and insulin protocols
  • Strong skills in phlebotomy, IV starts, and isolation precautions
  • Ability to interpret arterial blood gases and manage non-invasive airway interventions
  • Willingness to float to Emergency Department and Medical/Surgical units as needed
  • Flu vaccination required (medical/religious exemptions considered)
  • Must complete 8-10 hours of pre-start online modules using Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge

Preferred Qualifications:

  • NIHSS certification
  • Experience with IV insulin protocols and pre/post hemodialysis management
  • Skills in accessing ports, central line blood draws, and starting IVs
  • Experience with cerebrovascular accident (CVA) patients, pre/post neurosurgery, spinal cord injuries, and traumatic brain injury
  • Background in orthopedic trauma, total joint replacements, and wound care/wound vac management

Position Details:

  • This is an Emergency Department Inpatient (EDIP) holding area position located within the Float Pool
  • Patients are located within the Emergency Department awaiting inpatient bed placement with various adult medical/surgical diagnoses
  • May care for Progressive Care Unit level acuity patients in a fast-paced, high-turnover environment
  • Standard equipment includes cardiac monitors, IV pumps, and various monitoring systems
  • Interdisciplinary support from respiratory services, radiology, social services, pharmacy, rapid response teams, and transportation
  • 12-hour orientation period with manager-based scheduling
  • Navy scrubs provided
  • Up to 7 days of requested time off permitted (must be pre-approved, no holidays)
  • Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
  • Contract staff expected to serve on Storm/Hurricane Team and report during catastrophic events or mass casualty situations
