Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Registered Nurse with MedSurg experience to join our dedicated team. The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of nursing experience, including 1 year of direct MedSurg experience, and be familiar with a variety of patient diagnoses, particularly in neurology.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Provide care primarily for Stroke patients, as well as those with neurosurgery and other neuro diagnoses such as Epilepsy and subdural hematomas.
  • Initiate IV therapy and manage telemetry, including interpretation and management of dysrhythmias.
  • Float to other MedSurg/Telemetry areas as required and potentially include COVID care units.
  • Work every other weekend and fulfill additional shifts as needed, particularly if scheduled shifts are missed.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of clinical nursing experience with at least 1 year in a MedSurg setting.
  • Experience as a traveler is required; candidates must have successfully completed at least 2 contracts.

  • Certifications:
    • Basic Life Support (BCLS)
    • National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
    • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) preferred but not required.

Work Environment

  • Patient-to-nurse ratio of 1:6.
  • Shifts consist of 12-hour night shifts.
  • Unit orientation is 36 hours.
  • Utilization of systems including PYXIS and EPIC for efficient patient care management.
  • Nurses will be trained for the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) as needed.

Additional Information

Successful candidates must pass EKG testing prior to start. Block scheduling cannot always be guaranteed. Frequent floating is a possibility, and calls for shift changes may require required makeup shifts within the same week or at the end of the contract.

Dress Code

Navy scrubs are required while on duty.
