This 16-week travel nursing assignment offers the opportunity to provide meaningful care for adult and geriatric oncology patients in a specialized medical-surgical oncology environment focused on cardiac monitoring, chemotherapy support, symptom management, infection prevention, and safe, compassionate patient care. - Patient Ratio: Approximately 1:4
- Float Requirement: May float to other medical-surgical oncology units with an equivalent or lower acuity
Travel Registered Nurse Job Requirements
- At least 2 years of current acute-care Registered Nurse experience in medical-surgical telemetry; experience must be recent and consistent within the past 12 months
- Previous oncology nursing experience is preferred but not required
- Valid Ohio or compact Registered Nurse license in hand at the time of submission
- Current Basic Life Support certification
- Epic electronic health record charting experience required
- Previous travel nursing experience preferred
- Education from an ACEN- or CCNE-accredited nursing program
- Flu vaccination required; medical exemptions may be accepted
- Strong clinical knowledge of telemetry and oncology nursing practices
- Two professional references required, including at least one reference from a manager, director, supervisor, or other formal leader
- Prompt completion of Ohio fingerprinting and credentialing requirements after acceptance
- Requested time off must be disclosed during submission
Med/Surg Telemetry Oncology RN Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult and geriatric patients with a range of oncology diagnoses, including breast, lung, prostate, pancreatic, colon, and esophageal cancers, as well as sickle cell crises
- Monitor patients receiving chemotherapy and manage care related to continuous cardiac monitoring
- Interpret dysrhythmias and telemetry findings, recognize changes in patient condition, and initiate appropriate interventions
- Administer blood products and chemotherapy-related therapies according to established protocols
- Access and manage ports, central lines, and PICC lines while maintaining strict infection-prevention practices
- Start and maintain peripheral IVs and manage infusion therapy using Alaris pumps
- Perform arterial line management, interpret ABGs, and provide high-flow nasal cannula care as indicated
- Assist with chest tube insertion and removal, and provide chest tube system monitoring and care
- Manage symptoms related to disease progression and treatment, including pain and other complex comorbidities
- Prioritize fall prevention, infection prevention, patient education, and safe transitions of care
- Collaborate with pharmacy, respiratory therapy, physical therapy, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, and other interdisciplinary partners
- Float to designated units as needed while maintaining high standards of patient safety and compassionate care
