Travel Medical-Surgical Telemetry RN Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of recent, consistent acute-care RN experience in medical-surgical telemetry
  • Current experience in the specialty being applied for, including experience within the past 12 months
  • Active Registered Nurse license in Ohio or a valid compact-state RN license in hand at submission
  • Current Basic Life Support certification
  • Epic charting experience
  • Graduation from an ACEN- or CCNE-accredited nursing program
  • Strong telemetry, oncology, and complex medical-surgical nursing skills
  • Ability to provide required professional references, including at least one manager, director, supervisor, or other formal nursing leader
  • Ability to complete required credentialing and fingerprinting steps promptly before the assignment start date

Medical-Surgical Telemetry RN Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, evidence-based nursing care for adult and geriatric patients with medical-surgical, telemetry, and oncology needs
  • Monitor patients receiving chemotherapy-related care, including continuous cardiac monitoring and symptom management
  • Care for patients with breast, lung, prostate, pancreatic, colon, and esophageal cancers, as well as sickle cell crises and treatment-related conditions
  • Interpret dysrhythmias and telemetry findings, recognize changes in patient condition, and escalate concerns appropriately
  • Manage central lines, PICC lines, implanted ports, arterial lines, IV therapy, and blood product administration
  • Administer medications and therapies according to orders and policy, including insulin infusions and patient-controlled analgesia when indicated
  • Provide respiratory support and monitoring, including care for patients requiring high-flow nasal cannula or BiPAP/CPAP
  • Perform or assist with procedures such as chest tube management, tracheostomy care, bladder scanning, and arterial blood gas interpretation
  • Maintain rigorous infection-prevention practices and implement fall-prevention strategies
  • Collaborate with physicians, pharmacy, respiratory therapy, radiology, rehabilitation, social services, rapid response teams, and other members of the care team
  • Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately in Epic
  • Float to comparable units as needed while maintaining a high standard of patient-centered care
