Job Opportunity – Medical/Surgical Telemetry RN – New York

Start Date: October 5, 2026

Location: Western New York

Compensation: Details provided to qualified applicants

Schedule: 1:9 nurse-to-patient ratio on all shifts; every other weekend or 4 weekend shifts per month required; 12-hour orientation; float to other medical/surgical units as needed

Highlights:
  • 34-bed Medical/Surgical Telemetry unit with Joint Center of Excellence specializing in total joint replacements (hip, knee, shoulder)
  • Diverse patient population including post-surgical orthopedic and general surgery patients, plus medical telemetry patients across all age groups from adolescents to geriatrics
  • Team-based care delivery model with 1 RN, 1 LPN, and 1 PCT per 9 patients
  • Epic charting system with comprehensive interdisciplinary support including IV teams, respiratory services, physical therapy, and rapid response teams
  • Specialized unit equipped with wall suction for complex medical cases including small bowel obstructions
  • 13-week assignment with up to two pre-approved time-off periods (maximum 10 days total)
Requirements:
  • Active New York RN license required at time of submission
  • Minimum 2 years of recent Medical/Surgical or Telemetry nursing experience
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Epic charting experience required
  • Experience with 1:9 patient ratios preferred
  • Previous charge nurse experience preferred
  • Community hospital experience preferred
  • Must reside more than 75 miles from the facility
  • First-time travelers accepted
Clinical Skills & Competencies:
  • Total joint replacement care and orthopedic trauma management
  • Post-surgical care including surgical drains, chest tubes, and wound care/wound vac
  • Telemetry monitoring (on-unit and remote), interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Central line, PICC line, and port management
  • Blood product administration and IV insulin/heparin protocols
  • Advanced airway management including BiPAP/CPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, and tracheostomy care
  • Colostomy/ileostomy care, feeding tube management, and continuous bladder irrigation
  • Experience with CVA patients, renal failure, and substance withdrawal
