Registered Nurse - ED Holding Support

Join our dedicated team as a Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department Holding unit, providing essential nursing support to patients awaiting inpatient admission. This position involves working within a float pool and requires adaptability to different patient care areas.

Job Responsibilities

  • Care for patients in the ED Holding unit with diverse medical/surgical diagnoses.
  • Provide nursing support for medical-surgical and telemetry cases while floating to the Emergency Department and MedSurg as required.
  • Manage patients at both standard and PCU levels of care.
  • Collaborate with Rapid Response Teams and participate in emergency situations as necessary.
  • Document patient care accurately using electronic health systems.
  • Monitor patient telemetry and respond to changes in patient condition.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience, with a focus on travel nursing preferred.
  • Required skills include:
    • Management and interpretation of dysrhythmias
    • Telemetry monitoring (unit and remote)
    • Colostomy care and feeding tube management
    • Renal failure management and blood product administration
    • PICC line management and peripheral line care
    • Isolation precautions and airway management techniques (CPAP/BiPAP, High Flow Nasal Cannula)
    • Oxygen therapy and tracheostomy management
    • Phlebotomy
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • Preferred skills:
    • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
    • IV insulin protocols and hemodialysis management
    • Wound care and management techniques

Work Schedule and Expectations

  • Shift: Night shifts (4x12 hour rotations).
  • Target patient-to-nurse ratios: 1:6 for MS/Tele patients or 1:4 for PCU level patients.
  • Mandatory weekend work every other weekend.
  • Maximum of 7 days RTO (requested time off) allowed.
  • Participation in Storm Team and Hurricane Team as needed during catastrophic events.

Orientation and Training

12-hour orientation will be provided for successful candidates to ensure readiness for unit-specific tasks and responsibilities.
