Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital, requiring 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience.

Details

  • 35-bed Med/Surg Telemetry unit within a Level 1 Trauma, teaching hospital with Chest Pain and Stroke Center designations
  • Patient population includes orthopedic/trauma cases, acute and chronic disease, post-op surgeries, and common med-surg co-morbidities (diabetes, hypertension, CHF, infections, electrolyte imbalances)
  • RN to patient ratio of 1:4-6, with LPN support and 2-3 CNAs per shift
  • 12-hour shifts, 7A-7P or 7P-7A, scheduled on a 6-week cycle
  • Weekend rotation of 5-6 shifts per 6-week schedule
  • No on-call requirements
  • Floating required to all adult med surg/telemetry units in house
  • Uses EPIC EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis med dispensing, and Phillips monitors
  • Utilizes Central Telemetry Unit for cardiac monitoring
  • Unit equipped with VS3 and Dynamap vital sign monitors, Nova Glucose Stat Strips, bladder scanners, external fixators, chest tubes, JP/Hemovac drains, and PCA pain management

Requirements

  • Active RN license (GA state or compact) required
  • BLS certification required
  • Basic Cardiac Rhythm (BCR) competency required, including passing an EKG competency exam as part of compliance
  • ACLS certification preferred
  • Medical-surgical or Nephrology national certification preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience required
  • Strong clinical assessment and med-surg nursing skills suited for a Level 1 Trauma hospital
  • Experience with trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, glucommander, insulin drips, and heparin drips required
  • IV insertion, central line management, and wound care experience required
  • Cardiac monitoring and telemetry interpretation skills required
  • Last 4 of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
  • One professional reference dated within the last year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

  • Provide comprehensive med-surg/telemetry nursing care including discharge planning and patient education, particularly on renal and fluid management
  • Coordinate care with interdisciplinary teams including RT, hospitalists, and intensivists, all available 24/7
  • Work alongside CNAs, unit secretaries, charge nurses, and a resource/discharge nurse team for unit support
  • Facility uses a dedicated PICC team and lab-collect phlebotomy model rather than an IV team
  • Orientation includes 1 day of educational modules and 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Scrub color requirement: Navy for RNs
  • Free parking available around campus, with paid deck parking as an option
  • Unit culture described as busy but team-oriented
