Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital, requiring 2+ years of Med/Tele RN experience and a GA or compact RN license.

Details

  • 35-bed Med/Surg-Tele unit within a 637-bed Level 1 Trauma, teaching hospital with Chest Pain and Stroke Center designations
  • Cares for orthopedic/trauma patients (fractures, head trauma) and med-surg patients with comorbidities such as diabetes, hypertension, CHF, and electrolyte imbalances
  • RN to patient ratio of 1:4-6, with LPN support at 1:4-6 and 2-3 CNAs per shift
  • 12-hour night shifts (7P-7A), 36 hours/week on a 6-week schedule
  • Weekend rotation of 5-6 shifts per 6-week schedule
  • No on-call requirements
  • Floating required to all adult med-surg/telemetry units in the facility
  • Uses EPIC EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and Philips monitors
  • Central Telemetry Unit supports cardiac monitoring

Requirements

  • Active GA or compact RN license required
  • BLS required; BCR (Basic Cardiac Rhythm) competency exam required for compliance
  • ACLS preferred
  • Medical-surgical or Nephrology national certification preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Level 1 Trauma hospital experience preferred
  • Skilled in trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, insulin and heparin drip management, and central line care
  • Experience with wound care, post-op monitoring, and cardiac telemetry interpretation required
  • EPIC EMR experience required
  • At least one professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care including IV insertion, wound care, discharge planning, and patient education on renal and fluid management
  • Coordinate care with interdisciplinary teams including RT, hospitalists, and intensivists available 24/7
  • Support includes CNAs for basic care tasks, unit secretaries, charge nurses (may carry patient assignments), and a dedicated PICC team
  • Facility offers a 1-day general orientation plus 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Scrub color required: Navy for RNs
  • Holiday coverage required for approximately 75% of major holidays
  • RTO requests are subject to manager approval
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Local candidates accepted with no radius rule and same pay rate as travelers
  • Returning employees must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year following a permanent position
  • Unit culture is described as busy but team-oriented
