Registered Nurse (RN) - Med/Surg Telemetry

Job Description

This position involves providing nursing care to patients primarily in a MedSurg Telemetry unit. The Registered Nurse will manage and monitor patients, including those suffering from neurological conditions, ensuring a high standard of care is maintained at all times.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience with at least 1 year of direct MedSurg experience.
• Candidates must have a minimum of 2 successful travel contracts completed prior to applying.
• IV Start and Telemetry experience, including the interpretation and management of dysrhythmias.
• Experience with Med/Surg neuro patients is essential.
• Certifications: BCLS, NIH, NIHSS; ACLS is preferred but not required.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications

• ACLS certification is preferred.

Job Details

• Patient-to-nurse ratio: 1:6.
• Contract length: 13 weeks, with the possibility of 36 or 48 hours per week.
• Shifts: 12-hour nights.
• Travelers are required to work every other weekend. Any requests for time off that includes weekends will result in an extension of the contract to compensate.
• Floating to other MedSurg/Telemetry areas may be required, including COVID care units.
• If a traveler calls in for a scheduled weekend shift, they must make up those shifts as per the unit's needs.

Patient Care Focus

This unit primarily cares for stroke patients, in addition to those undergoing neurosurgery and other neuro diagnoses, such as epilepsy and various hematomas.

Special Procedures and Unit Information

• The unit includes a 4-bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU). While the unit trains nurses for this aspect, it typically does not impact travelers unless they have received training.
• The daily census averages 42 patients with 43 available rooms/beds.

• Orientation duration: 36 hours.
• Scrubs: Navy.

Additional Information

• All candidates must pass EKG testing prior to starting in this specialty.
