Join a leading acute-care hospital as an RN in the MedSurg/Telemetry unit, where you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care. This facility is a Level 1 Trauma Center and a teaching hospital, equipped with 637 licensed beds and specialized centers for chest pain and stroke management.

Unit Information:

  • Beds: 35
  • Census: 35
  • Minimum Years of Experience Required: 2 years Med/Tele RN experience
  • First-time Travelers: Accepted

Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:

  • Patients with acute or chronic diseases
  • Post-operative surgeries
  • Common co-morbidities: diabetes, hypertension, infections, CHF, electrolyte imbalances

Patient Ratios:

  • RN: 1:4-6
  • LPN: 1:4-6
  • CNA: 2-3 per shift

Required Licenses and Certifications:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) required
  • BCR (Basic Cardiac Rhythm) required – EKG competency exam required
  • ACLS - preferred, not required
  • National certification in Medical-Surgical - preferred

Skills Required:

  • Trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts
  • Glucommander, insulin drips, heparin drips
  • Strong clinical assessment and med-surg nursing skills for a Level 1 Trauma Hospital
  • IV insertion and care, central line management
  • Wound care and post-operative monitoring
  • Cardiac monitoring and telemetry interpretation
  • Care coordination with interdisciplinary teams
  • Discharge planning and patient education management

Support within the Department:

  • CNA duties include assisting with vital signs, glucose checks, baths, feeding, ambulating patients, and hourly rounding
  • Unit secretary available from 7a-11p; house-wide call secretary from 11p-7a
  • Charge nurse may have patients
  • Phlebotomy typically performed by lab collect team
  • PICC team available for central line management
  • Resource nurses available for discharge and support
  • RT and Hospitalist available 24/7
  • Telemetry monitoring/tech in a central telemetry unit

Technology/Equipment:

  • EMR: EPIC
  • IV Pump: Alaris
  • Med dispensing: Pyxis
  • Monitors: Phillips
  • Unit-specific equipment includes VS3 vital sign monitors, portable vital signs monitors, and more

Orientation:

  • 1 day orientation with educational modules
  • 2 days departmental orientation

  • Scrub Color: RN - Navy; LPN - Ceil Blue
