Join a leading acute-care hospital as an RN in the MedSurg/Telemetry unit in Macon, GA. This position offers a unique opportunity to work in a dynamic environment with a focus on providing exceptional patient care. Our facility is known for its Level 1 Trauma designation and serves as a teaching hospital, ensuring a supportive atmosphere for both patients and staff.
Unit Information:
- Each Med Surg unit has 20-36 beds.
- Minimum of 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience required.
- First-time travelers are welcome.
Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:
- Med Surg / Telemetry – all inpatient med surg units.
- Common diagnoses include patients with acute or chronic diseases, co-morbidities such as diabetes, hypertension, infections, and electrolyte imbalances.
- Cardiac patients: post-cath, CHF, a-fib.
- Post-surgical patients: General, Ortho, Trauma.
Patient Ratios:
- RN: 1:4-6
- LPN: 1:4-6
- CNA: up to 1:14
Required License and Certifications:
- BLS required.
- ACLS preferred – travelers will be required to pass an EKG competency exam during onboarding.
- Certification in Med Surg is a plus.
Skills Required:
- Trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts and IV maintenance, glucomander, strong assessment and time management skills, care coordination with interdisciplinary team, discharge planning knowledge, patient education.
- Telemetry skills: monitoring and interpreting cardiac rhythms, post-cath, TR bands, post-cath groin site management (no sheath pulls).
- Drip management: insulin, heparin, Cardizem, amiodarone, milrinone, Digoxin, nicardipine (may titrate drips for HR but not for BP).
- 6 months of EPIC experience required.
Support within the Department:
- CNA assistance with vitals, blood glucose checks, baths, bed changes, feeding, patient safety, walking, and turning patients.
- Unit Secretary available 7A-11P; house-wide call secretary from 11P-7A.
- Charge nurse may or may not have patients.
- Most units perform lab collect phlebotomy; RNs draw off of CVLs.
- PICC team available for specialized IV needs.
- Resource Nurse support with discharge nurses and a floating Resource team.
- RT, Hospitalist, and Intensivist available 24/7.
- Central telemetry unit for monitoring.
Technology/Equipment:
- EMR: EPIC – 6 months EPIC experience required.
- IV Pump: Alaris.
- Med dispensing: Pyxis.
- Monitors: Phillips.
- Unit-specific equipment: VS3 vital sign monitors, Nova Glucose Stat Strips.
Floating:
- Travelers may be utilized in a float pool capacity and will be required to float to all Med/Tele units in-house as needed.
- May also float to the ED for holds.
Orientation:
- 1 day orientation with educational modules.
- 2 days departmental orientation.
Additional Notes:
- Scrub Color: RN - Navy; LPN - Ceil Blue.
