Job Title: Surgical Nursing/Orthopedic Staff RN Profession: RN Specialty: Surgical Nursing/Orthopedic Duration: 8 weeks Shift: 7A - 7P Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 2 years required, 5 years preferred License: RN license required Certifications: CPR required, BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, EKG required Must-Have: Travel Experience Description: Provides professional nursing care to assigned patients utilizing the nursing process within established standards and practices. Assesses and reassesses young adult, adult, and elderly patients. Demonstrates basic competency in specialized procedures and equipment. Provides pre and post-operative care for various surgical specialties. Manages pain effectively for patients. Cares for and manages chest tubes and other drainage systems. Administers medications safely according to protocols. Conducts assessments including NIH Stroke Scale and KODA Access. Handles central lines and specialized IV drips, including titration. Provides IV therapy and other specialized nursing interventions. Maintains accurate and continued documentation of patient histories, conditions, treatments, and responses. Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity while maintaining confidentiality. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, and spiritual needs of patients and families. Functions as a patient advocate ensuring their needs are met. Demonstrates knowledge of principles of growth and development. Interacts professionally with patients and families. Involves patients and families in the formation of individualized care plans. Reviews and revises care plans daily to ensure optimal patient outcomes. Formulates teaching plans based on identified learning needs. Evaluates the effectiveness of learning and includes family when necessary. Supervises health care staff involved in patient care. Allocates and monitors the work of team members. Assists physicians with procedures as necessary. Responds promptly to changes in workload achieving optimal efficiency. Participates in performance improvement activities to enhance patient outcomes. Functions as a preceptor to orient new employees. Engages in professional growth through education, literature, and workshops. Maintains operation and adequate stock of patient care equipment and supplies. Demonstrates flexibility and organization under stressful situations. Meets all departmental specific competencies. Performs housekeeping duties when required. Assists with transportation of patients when needed. Adheres to dress code and policies on infection control and safety. Performs other related duties as assigned. Serves as a team leader and role model for other staff members.
