Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (RN)

We are seeking an experienced Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (RN) to provide high-quality care to patients in a stroke stepdown unit. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in medical-surgical nursing, particularly with stroke patients, and must possess relevant travel experience.

Job Responsibilities

• Manage and monitor the care of patients recovering from strokes and other medical conditions, ensuring optimal patient outcomes.
• Provide assessments, interventions, and education to patients and their families.
• Administer medications, treatments, and therapies as prescribed by physicians.
• Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized care plans.
• Utilize specialty equipment such as IV pumps, N/G tubes, and feeding tubes.
• Maintain accurate patient records and documentation in compliance with hospital policies.
• Participate in patient floating as necessary to meet unit needs.

Qualifications

• Current and active Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York and all applicable states.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in medical-surgical nursing with emphasis on stroke stepdown care.
• Documentation of travel experience is required.
• Current certifications in AHA BLS and NIHSS; NIHSS certification may be obtained before the start date.
• Valid driver's license with address matching demographic information.
• Experience with electronic medical records (EMR), particularly EPIC, is preferred.

Unit Information

• Common Diagnoses: Stroke, altered mental status, renal issues, COPD, CHF, pneumonia, and other general medical-surgical conditions.
• Patient Demographics: Adults.
• Size of Unit: 64 beds.
• Uniform Scrub Color: Navy Blue.
