Job Summary:
Medical Surgical Floor (MS) nurse position in an acute care setting located at a facility with a 29-bed unit. This role involves caring for patients with a wide range of diagnoses, including gastrointestinal bleeds, sepsis, cellulitis, congestive heart failure, COVID-19, osteomyelitis, and other medical conditions. The position offers a night shift schedule, with a focus on patient care, titrating Drips (Heparin only), and utilizing unit resources effectively. The assignment is from 09/28/2026 to 01/11/2027.

Job Details:

  • Schedule: 12-hour night shifts, with report at 7 p.m. and 7 a.m., minimum of 36 hours per week
  • Required Qualifications: Active Illinois Registered Nurse licensure, BLS certification, 1+ year of clinical experience, proficiency in reading telemetry strips, and the ability to titrate Heparin drips
  • Preferred Qualifications: Experience on a Medical-Surgical unit, familiarity with electronic charting system EPIC, and telemetry monitoring experience
  • Float: Travel Registered Nurses (RNs) are first to float as needed to other medical-surgical units; no intensive care or chemotherapy care required
  • Additional Information:
    • Patient nurse ratio during night shift is approximately 5-6:1
    • No ventilator management; oxygen therapy up to 6L NC, with BiPAP/CPAP available PRN
    • 24-hour Charge RN coverage with an administrative supervisor available 24/7
    • Unit staffed with PCTs at a ratio of 1:10 and remote telemetry monitored via Philips systems
    • Orientation includes two shifts; RN candidates are expected to utilize unit resources for IV starts and blood draws with inpatient phlebotomy support as necessary
    • Scrubs are to be provided by staff, any color acceptable, no pediatric scrubs required
    • No call or standby requirements, holiday rotations apply as scheduled
    • This position is for an acute care setting with a focus on medical diagnoses and patient stabilization
