Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Overview

A challenging opportunity for a Medical Surgical Registered Nurse with experience in patient care, specifically in a fast-paced environment. The role may involve caring for adults and geriatric patients, with a daily census of approximately 43 patients. The position requires flexibility and the ability to respond to various situational needs in a dynamic healthcare setting.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality nursing care to patients assigned to the unit.
• Manage patient care via electronic medical records, specifically using EPIC.
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
• Monitor patient progress and communicate effectively with the healthcare team.
• Participate in storm and hurricane response teams, with a requirement to report for duty during catastrophic events.
• Attend monthly team meetings and contribute to unit goals and responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum of 2 years in a similar nursing role; first-time travelers are welcome.
• Certifications: BCLS certification required; CPI and charge nurse experience preferred.
• Skills: Proficiency with EPIC is mandatory; additional experience with heparin drips, wound vac dressing changes, and high flow oxygen preferred.

Schedule and Availability

• Must be available to work holidays.
• Assigned to every other weekend shifts.
• Shifts are 3x12-hour from 06:45 to 19:15.
• Orientation period will be 24 hours.

Additional Requirements

• Capable of handling possible COVID-19 patient care.
• Traveler will join an Inclement Weather Team.
• Must pass EKG testing prior to starting in the specialty.
• Floating to similar units and alternate care locations may be required.

Patient Demographics

This position involves caring for adult and geriatric patients primarily in a general medical/surgical setting.

Unit Systems

This role requires familiarity with PYXIS for medication management and SBAR for communication.
