Description

Job Title: Registered Nurse - Labor & Delivery Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Labor and Delivery Unit Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years in Labor and Delivery License: Registered Nurse License Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP, Intermediate or Advanced FHM Must-Have: Must have completed at least 1 assignment at a facility comparable in size and acuity Level III NICU; Newborn Nursery Charge experience preferred Description: Immediate need for an experienced Registered Nurse in the Labor and Delivery Unit. The unit performs approximately 1800 deliveries per year. On average, 4 scheduled events are conducted daily, including cesarean sections. The unit consists of 7 labor rooms and 2 triage rooms. Pre-operative and post-anesthesia care are provided in labor rooms. There are 25 postpartum and antepartum beds, with some being overflow antepartum monitored by labor and delivery RNs. Recognized as a referral center, the unit handles complex cases requiring NICU services. The facility is not currently Baby Friendly designated and has a limited pool of lactation staff. Patient care follows a rooming-in model for mother-baby pairs. The Labor and Delivery and Mother-Baby units are physically separate but adjacent to each other. Common patient diagnoses include gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, eclampsia, and fetal loss complications among others. Labor nurses also participate in newborn care if the mother requires continuous surveillance. Nurse-to-patient ratios vary with active phases of labor having a ratio of 1:1. Minimum staffing goals are 6 registered nurses on both day and night shifts, with potential adjustments for call-outs. Required skills include management of labor processes, including titration of medications and providing lactation support. Support staff is available on the unit, including unit secretaries and a charge nurse. Anesthesia coverage is provided 24/7, ensuring comprehensive patient care. Scheduling includes working weekends and holidays as part of the rotation, with flexibility for additional shifts. All personal attire, including scrubs, is provided on-site.
