Description:
The unit features 12 Labor and Delivery beds.
There are 2 operating room suites on the unit for C-sections.
Triage beds available are 4 in total.
The unit has 16 postpartum beds.
Monthly, the unit experiences 160-200 births.
The unit follows AWHONN guidelines for staffing ratios.
Required certifications include ACLS, NRP, and AWOHNN fetal monitoring.
RNs will float to mother-baby units, though this is rare.
RNs are responsible for circulating and participating in C-sections.
Common titratable drips include those used in the unit.
The charge nurse does not take an assignment and remains free.
Surgical techs are available in the unit to assist.
An OB/neonatologist is in-house 24/7.
Anesthesia support is available in-house 24/7.
Respiratory therapy equipment, including vents, CPAP, and BiPap, is present.
There are no monitor techs; RNs must interpret their own strips using the designated monitors.
The unit employs an electronic fetal monitoring system.
Modified self-scheduling is utilized for shift planning.
Full-time staff is required to work every other weekend.
Holiday work is required as scheduled.
There is no on-call or standby requirement.
Floating to other units is part of the job description.
The dress code for scrubs is royal blue.
Unit-specific orientation will be provided.
The cancellation policy includes the possibility of shifts being canceled.
Charting is conducted using an electronic health record system.
